  1. 1 Work out the missing number: 3/4 = ?/20 2 marks
    Answer: 15 — Multiply the denominator by 5 (20 ÷ 4), then multiply the numerator by 5 (3 × 5).
  2. 2 Arrange in order from smallest to largest: 3/5, 1/2, 7/10, 2/5 3 marks
    Answer: 2/5, 1/2, 3/5, 7/10 — Convert to twentieths: 12/20, 10/20, 15/20, 8/20.
  3. 3 A recipe calls for 3/4 of a kilogram of flour. Marie only has 2/3 of that amount. How much flour does she have? Give your answer as a fraction of a kilogram. 4 marks
    Answer: 1/2 kg — 3/4 × 2/3 = 6/12 = 1/2. Convert mixed to improper, multiply numerators and denominators, simplify.
  4. 4 What is 3/5 of 120? 2 marks
    Answer: 72 — Divide 120 by 5 (= 24), then multiply by 3. Show full working for 3 method marks.
  5. 5 James spends 2/5 of his pocket money on a book and 1/4 on sweets. What fraction of his pocket money is left? 4 marks
    Answer: 7/20 — 2/5 + 1/4 = 8/20 + 5/20 = 13/20. Remaining = 20/20 − 13/20 = 7/20.
